Mulberry is a city located in the Polk County in the Central Florida Highlands. The city’s name is based on a mulberry tree found in the center point of the community. In the past the tree served as an assembly or meeting point for the town. The first settlers in the city arrived at about the period of the 1840s, during the logging industry era. The city became incorporated in 1901.
In 1886, phosphate rock was discovered in the Peace River in Mulberry. This discovery of phosphate drove the economy and established the community of the city. As a result, many businesses were set up over the years. Some examples are:

These businesses operated in the city and established some of the following mines:

The mines supplied eighty percent (80%) of the nation’s demand for fertilizer ingredients and one third (1/3) of the world’s demand for essential fertilizer ingredients.
Today, Mulberry is home to Mosaic (formerly International Mineral and Chemical Corporation IMC), the world’s top phosphate producer. The city is also home to Master Containers Inc., which is the largest foam cut and container plant in Florida.
